Meditation

Whereas Spiritual Mind Treatment is a conversation with God, meditation is listening to God. A common misconception is that all meditation must be done sitting cross legged on a cushion with eyes wide shut. While sitting meditations may be the most common, there is no requirement for eyes to be shut. And, there are walking meditations with careful attention paid to each step. There are movement meditations such as those practiced by the whirling dervishes of Sufism, the mystical side of Islam. And, farther East, there is Tai. Chi, formerly practiced as a martial art, now as a choreography slowed to the speed of mindfulness.

In Science of Mind we usually use meditation for two purposes. The first is to calm the mind and enter the sacred space within ourselves to commune with the One Mind of which we are a part.

The other, is to still the mind releasing all attachments. When we are calm, and still we ask ourselves a set of questions, and listen for the response of Spirit. This response my be through any of our senses. And, it may come after the meditation is finished, or even before the meditation occurred, the meditation bringing it into our awareness. This second type of meditation is called, Visioning. There is more information about visioning on our Visioning page.
